1. At GDC, AMD announced its technology platform for Virtual Reality, called AMD LiquidVR™.

a. AMD LiquidVR has four main features currently, that enable developers to create rich VR content today, and will enable users to have a smooth, immersive experience once HMD’s become available (for more info, visit the AMDVR page):

i. Async Shaders (this specific feature can address a few interesting challenges beyond virtual reality, and is one of the most important cornerstone-features of DirectX 12, stay tuned for more!)

ii. Latest Data Latch

iii. Affijnity Multi-GPU

iv. Direct-to-Display All GCN enabled products support these features today.

b. Oculus have stated that they’re very excited about the progress AMD has made with LiquidVR and are looking at/working on implementations. In addition, during a tech-talk at GDC, Valve mentioned getting 2x scaling from 2 GPUs in just 2 hours of work with our Affinity Multi-GPU feature, on AMD Radeon GPUs.

c. Oxide Games have announced and showcased their latest game to be launched next year, Ashes of the Singularity. Brad Wardell, their CEO, was demonstrating the game, running at 4K resolution on Mantle, using 2xAMD Radeon R9 290X cards – something that isn’t possible on other current APIs, said Wardell. See for yourselfhere.

2. AMD is launching its first FreeSync-enabled (for end users) driver this week (March 19th), to abolish tearing, eliminate stuttering and greatly reduce input latency, making life better for gamers, and – really – for anyone who appreciates a seamless viewing experience. A number of displays are already shipping, or are about to ship:

a. Acer XG270HU

b. BenQ XL2730Z

c. LG 34UM67

d. Samsung UE590 and UE850
